About This Program

Join local professor Duff Crerar as he discusses Scotland and King Arthur.

"Although the volcanic crag in the heart of Edinburgh is known as Arthur’s Seat, most do not associate the legendary king of Britain with the Northern Kingdoms and the birth of Alba. Yet there are at least ten sites in Scotland which claim Arthurian connections. From the Stone Footprint at Dalriada’s Dunadd fort near Kilmartin, to St. Mungo’s (Kentigern’s) baptism of Merlin and eventually to Arthur’s burial with the ancient Kings of Scotland at Iona, the Matter of Britain has a Scottish connection.  We will examine some of these links and discover how, at the beginning of the story of Alba, the invasion of the Saxons brought together the tales of the two Kingdoms."
