About This Program
Do you like assisting others? Community Helpers may be for you! This five-week program will teach you all about mental health and suicide prevention. You’ll learn variety of topics and skills including effective communication, self-care, coping with stress, knowing when to refer people to professional services, handling crisis situations, and suicide awareness. In addition to developing skills and increasing knowledge. Helpers are introduced to community services and professional supports. This connection bridges informal and formal supports in the community, enabling helpers to refer peers and family to expert support when needed.
This program will be facilitated by Raemona Smith (helpers@sp-rc.ca). Presented in partnership with Alberta Health Services and The Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention.
Audience: Ages 12-18
Time: Wednesdays and Fridays, September 30 to October 30
Location: Presented online via Zoom, 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
